    World Services for the Blind was founded in 1947 by Roy Kumpe to serve people who are blind and visually impaired who needed to learn independent living skills or job training skills that considered the special requirements of their individual visual impairments.
    What we offer
         Life skills training, from learning Braille to mastering home management techniques, which give our clients independence.
         Career training in a number of vocational programs that empower graduates to thrive in today's high-tech workplace.
     Access for people 55 and older who are losing their sight to regain their independence through the Older Blind Program.
    The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit social enterprise providing employment, support, and training opportunities for people who are blind, Deaf-Blind, and blind with other disabilities. The Lighthouse has provided employment and support to blind people in our community since 1918.
        Our philosophy maintains that each employee be provided with whatever supports are necessary for success in the workplace. Supports include an in-house sign language interpreting department to ensure effective communication for Deaf-Blind employees, staff mobility instructors to teach independent travel with a white cane or dog guide, and over 100 computer workstations adapted for use by visually impaired individuals.

    The Lighthouse of Houston :
    Established in 1939, The Lighthouse of Houston is a private, nonprofit education and service center dedicated to assisting blind and visually impaired people to live independently. The Lighthouse serves approximately 7, 000 people each year and is a member agency of the United Way of Greater Houston. The primary goal of the Lighthouse of Houston is direct service to the individual.
    This includes not only providing direct service, but a continual commitment to improving the quality and relevance of this service. The Lighthouse of Houston offers a wide variety of educational programs, community services and outpatient rehabilitation for the blind and visually impaired.
    With more than 25 years of experience in the field, The Lighthouse of Houston’s Vision Rehabilitation Clinic provides the most comprehensive low vision services in the Houston metropolitan area. Services include on-site clinical evaluations, professional rehabilitation services and the latest in adaptive visual aids to help individuals maximize the vision they have in order to participate in everyday activities.
